Bridging Academia and Industry: Basilic Fly Studio Hosts Animation & VFX Students for an Insightful Industrial Visit
Basilic Fly Studio, Pune, recently had the pleasure of hosting B.Sc. Animation & VFX students from Dr. D. Y. Patil School of Design for an immersive and knowledge-driven industrial visit, conducted by the Basilic Fly Studio team. The initiative was designed to provide aspiring artists with meaningful exposure to the workings of a professional VFX studio, while also helping them understand the evolving demands of the global entertainment industry. As the Animation and VFX landscape continues to advance rapidly, bridging the gap between academic learning and industry expectations has become increasingly important. With this objective in mind, the visit focused on giving students a clear, practical perspective on how large-scale international film projects are conceptualized, executed, and delivered within a studio environment.During the session, students were introduced to the end-to-end VFX pipeline, covering key stages such as pre-production, asset creation, matchmoving, layout, animation, FX, lighting, compositing, and final delivery. This comprehensive overview enabled them to understand how different departments collaborate to bring complex visual stories to life. Our industry experts shared valuable insights into real-time production workflows, studio practices, and the technical and creative standards required in today’s competitive landscape. The interaction went beyond theory, offering students exposure to practical applications and real-world scenarios, helping them align their academic learning with industry-relevant processes and tools. At Basilic Fly Studio, we strongly believe in nurturing emerging talent and encouraging upcoming artists by providing direct access to industry environments. Such initiatives not only inspire creativity but also help students build confidence, understand professional expectations, and prepare for real-world challenges. We extend our sincere appreciation to our team, Amir and Sudhakar Bhavanasi, for their support in organizing and delivering this session. Their contribution, along with the collective efforts of the Basilic Fly Studio team, ensured a meaningful and enriching experience for all participants. We also acknowledge Ajay Popalghat, VFX Assistant Professor, along with the B.Sc.
